| Short description: | The course contains the issues involving an analysis of the types of behavior and mechanisms for their control in selected animal species (mammals and birds) |
| Full description: | Basic definitions related to animal behavior, characteristics of behavior categories and forms, standards of daily behaviors, genetic and physiological conditions of animal behaviors, practicals application of the knowledge of animal behavior (social, sexual behavior, care of progeny, aggressive and exploring behaviors, subordination), their modifications, stress phenomenon, behavior and welfare. |

| Learning outcomes: | Knowledge: 1 –understands basic natural phenomena and processes and their connections to related disciplines. Knows the history of biological sciences and research methods. Points the possibilities of practicals application of the knowledge gained in social-economic life. Understands ethical-moral threats and problems related to biology development. Skills: U1 – Based on professional literature, formulates the arguments concerning ethical and moral problems of modern biology. Discusses the possibilities of current problems solving. Critically evaluates information concerning biology provided in mass-media. U2 –Makes use of every available information sources, including electronic ones, in learning, preparation of presentations, problem-related lectures, research activity planning. Social competences: K1 –Exhibits an interest in systematic updating of the knowledge in the field of biology and related disciplines, understands the need of whole life knowledge gaining and complexing. Actively improves qualifications via participation in specialist courses and trainings |
| Assessment methods and assessment criteria: | On completion it is necessary to prepare reports on field activities (behavior ethograms of observed animals) and prepare a presentation of the issues related to animal behavior. Students have to pass two tests including material from the lectures. The presence at exercises is obligatory and in the absence of the student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. On completion it is necessary to obtain 60% of the points. |
